Three Body Product Method
Principles
The ground the method stands on.
Updated September 2026
These are the ground the method stands on. Every level page quietly applies them; this page is the only place they get said out loud.
Why is always for who
Every answer to “why are we doing this” names a person. Before you defend a decision with logic, check who it makes life better for. If no one comes to mind, the decision probably isn’t ready yet.
Delight is not optional
A plan that only removes friction is incomplete. Somewhere in every cycle, look for a moment you could make lighter, warmer, or a little more human. The sheets treat this as core work, not a bonus round once the important things are done.
Work as if you live in the early days of a better future
Assume the change you’re making is already normal somewhere, and you’re only helping it arrive sooner. It changes how you write, how you pitch, and how patient you are with the gap between where things are and where they could be.
One single source of truth, and the recipient is it
The filled sheets and what you build from them are the shared, transparent record. Design, Build and Ship read the same persona, the same needs, the same success cards. That’s what makes this human-centred across all three, instead of three separate teams politely disagreeing about who the customer is.
Accountability points forward
A good record shows what’s ahead, not who missed a date. Treat a milestone as a reason to celebrate value delivered, not a deadline to defend. The difference changes how a team talks to each other when things slip.
Full circle
What you learn at the end feeds back into the beginning. Step 9 routes findings straight back into persona, needs, priorities and success. The method is a loop you keep walking, not a checklist you finish once.
Get out of the building
Write down what you actually saw and heard, not what seems likely. A guess is still allowed. Label it as a hypothesis to test, and go find out.
Foundation first is enough
Doing only the ★ level of all nine steps is a complete, legitimate run of the method, not a shortcut you should feel behind for taking. The one rule that matters more than finishing every level: never skip a level inside a step, and never skip a step. Each one is the base the next stands on.
Built on what already works, and tool-agnostic
Personas, empathy maps, journeys, the impact/complexity matrix, kanban, NPS. None of this is new, and Three Body Product doesn’t compete with the tools you already use to get there. What it adds is the order, the sheet as a shared record everyone can read, and the hand-off between the three bodies.
Humble tone, confident content
Say plainly what a step helps with and for whom. No comparing with other methods, no superlatives, no claim to be better. The content can be confident without the tone needing to boast.
